"So now I am giving you a new commandment: Love each other. Just as I have loved you, you should love each other. Your love for one another will prove to the world that you are my disciples.” - John 13:34-35 (NLT).
There's an old saying: The greatest trick the devil ever pulled was convincing the world he doesn't exist. That's a pretty true statement, but I think there's another trick he has pulled that has impacted the work of Jesus Christ in today's world on a far greater scale. The devil has convinced the body of Christ that disagreeing on doctrinal issues is cause for fighting, arguing, and no fellowship. I believe the greatest trick the devil ever pulled is convincing the Christian world that fellowship with all believers can't exist.
We all have a tendency of focusing only on the reasons we disagree with each other. Do you think Jesus intended on there being so many different denominations in today's world? As of 2025, there are over 50,000 different Christian denominations in the world, which is up 6,000 since 2020. Instead of more unity in these last days, there's more division than ever before. Listen to the words of Jesus in Mark 3:25, And if a house be divided against itself, that house cannot stand.
Do you know why denominations started? Because men and women, just like you and I, decided that disagreeing meant we could no longer sit at the same table. They made a choice to only be around people that talked the same way, dressed the same way, and believed the same way as they do, and unfortunately, we are still making the same choices today.
What does the Bible say? Do all that you can to live in peace with everyone. - Romans 12:18 (NLT); Make every effort to keep yourselves united in the Spirit, binding yourselves together with peace. - Ephesians 4:3 (NLT); &, Most important of all, continue to show deep love for each other, for love covers a multitude of sins. - 1 Peter 4:8 (NLT). Sounds like the Apostles were in agreement with each other. They weren't divided. They weren't arguing. They were unified in getting the message of Jesus Christ to the world and they knew to do that they needed unity.
Take a look at the world today. There are more bound, bruised, and broken people than ever before. Addictions, mental illnesses, divorces, spiritual bankruptcy, and moral decay are taking over the world. What is the answer? JESUS. JESUS. JESUS. The real Jesus. The Jesus who loves sinners but hates the sins they commit. The Jesus who said, Anyone who is not against us is for us. - Mark 9:40 (NLT). The same Jesus who commanded us to love each other (Jn 13:34). We can continue focusing on everything we disagree on or we can choose to focus on the one thing we should all agree on: everyone needs Jesus. He's the Rock we all need to stand on. God Bless!
