For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago. - Ephesians 2:10 (NLT).

You've decided to follow Jesus. You've quit running and you're willing to do whatever He tells you to do. So, why are you feeling convicted about everything in your life? Things that you've never felt conviction about before? Are you under attack from the enemy? Or is God is refining you into a newer, better version of yourself?

When a sculptor begins working on a statue, he's the only one who can see what the stone will look like when it’s finished. The sculptor isn’t worried about how long it takes or the mess he creates when he begins working on the blank slate. The only thing that matters to the artist is what the finished work will look like when he's finished.

Michelangelo began carving the statue of David in September 1501. Three other artists had begun working on the 17-foot piece of Carrara marble but quit because the task was too much. For nearly 3 years, Michelangelo worked on this piece of marble; hammering and knocking unwanted parts off the stone, until his creation began to take shape. Eventually, a work of art emerged. When others declared the stone unworkable, Michaelangelo had the patience to see the marble slab turn into a masterpiece.

It wasn’t until the stone was placed into the right hands that it was able to reach its full potential. It wasn’t until it was in the hands of someone who was willing to be patient, who never gave up or abandoned it, and was willing to invest the time it took to make a rock into a masterpiece. That stone needed the exact same thing we do when we become new creations in Christ: A Creator who is willing to carve away the parts of us we don't need. A Creator who is willing to be patient, regardless of how messy it may get. A Creator who knows exactly what the finished product will look like, even though everyone else said it was a lost cause.

Accepting your place in God's Kingdom is just the beginning. There are things in your life that God will begin chiseling away in order for you to become the person He created you to be. This process is not the picture of peace and prosperity that you imagined it to be. In fact, this process can be painful and hard. It can even cause the ones who aren't ready to let go of the world to fall back and run from their calling again.

When God puts the chisel to the dead parts of our life, it can feel like we're under attack, but before you give the devil any credit, stop and consider if it's Jesus shaping you into a better you. Remember, God doesn't call the qualified, He qualifies the called. You're being qualified, prepared, and shaped by a skilled Creator who knows exactly what He's doing. He's making you His masterpiece! God Bless!
