but they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint. - Isaiah 40:31 (KJV).
When is enough, enough? Life has a way of piling up. Financial strains, family drama, friendly foes, and long days at work can be bearable when faced one at a time, but what do we do when they all seem to pile up at once? Stress goes up. Blood pressure skyrockets. Tempers flare. Patience is nowhere to be found. Life becomes so heavy that one more step feels impossible and waiting on the Lord feels more like a weight tied around our necks that drags our walk with God to a standstill.
In our keynote verse, we see a promise God makes to His people for when life becomes too much. When we think about waiting, we think of a passive, but stagnant exercise. The Passion Translation's interpretation of this verse gives us a little more context into what waiting for the Lord is meant to be: But those who entwine their hearts with YAHWEH will experience divine strength. They will rise up on soaring wings and fly like eagles, run their races without growing weary, and walk through life without giving up. - Isaiah 40:31 (TPT). The Hebrew word used for waiting is actually an action word meant to encourage the reader to draw closer to God.
When life gets busy, we tend to view our time spent with God as a luxury instead of a necessity. We leave reading our Bibles, praying, and attending church out of our lives, and when we do, our patience and ability to deal with life leaves with them. We are no longer balancing our spiritual life with our physical life, and everything gets out of whack. By "waiting" on the Lord, we shift the weight from physical to spiritual. By drawing closer to God, we take the burden off of ourselves and cast our cares upon the Lord, and in doing so, we experience a divine energy that allows us to soar above life's difficulties like an eagle.
Are you worn thin? Has life stolen your peace? Do you feel like you're falling apart? Then entwine your heart with God and you will experience divine strength; you will have a peace that passes all understanding; and you will walk through life without giving up. It's your promise from a Lord and Savior who cares about every detail of your life, even the ones too heavy to carry. Make spending time with Him a priority. God Bless!
