And when he has found it, he will joyfully carry it home on his shoulders. - Luke 15:5 (NLT)

Finding the perfect gift is the mission we all face this Christmas season. Regardless of who it's for, we put up with angry crowds, cold temperatures, and the stresses of trying to make our paychecks look like Jesus feeding the 5,000 with a couple of fish and a few loaves. With all of the secret Santas, gift exchanges, cousin Eddies, and Christmas parties, we can get so busy that we forget that the holiday season isn't about finding the perfect gift.

In Luke 15, Jesus uses a trio of parables to illustrate a point that all of us need to remember this time of year. In these parables, the shepherd was searching for his lost sheep, the woman was searching for her lost coin, and the father ran to meet his lost son. Each of these parables display a sense of urgency to locate and save the missing item or person. The shepherd left the ninety-nine to find the one, the woman searched all night to find the coin, and the father saw the prodigal son from a distance before running to meet him, with the latter lending itself to the idea that the father was "looking" in the distance for his son to return. Jesus is willing to go any distance, search for as long as it takes, and even run to meet us when we turn towards Him.

This holiday season remember this, while you're out there trying to find the perfect gift, the Perfect Gift is out there trying to find you. He wants to bring you home. Home to the warmth, comfort, and safety of His loving arms. He's the one size fits all Gift. He's the Gift that keeps on giving. He's the Way, the Truth, and the Life and He holds your eternity in His hands. If you've already received His gift of eternal salvation, then take a minute to thank Him for finding you when you were lost. If you haven't made the choice to follow Jesus, then there's no time like today to turn to Him. He's waiting. He's ready to joyfully carry you home on His shoulders. Merry Christmas and God Bless!
