Later, when the boy was older, his mother brought him back to Pharaoh’s daughter, who adopted him as her own son. The princess named him Moses, for she explained, “I lifted him out of the water.” - Exodus 2:10 (NLT).
We all have a story to tell. Some good, some bad. Our stories make up our testimonies, and our testimonies are made from the battles we've faced and overcame in our lives. For some of us, the battles we overcame have led others to the One who lifted us out of our mess. For others, the defeats we faced in battles have led to scarring and wounds that haven't quite healed, yet. Regardless of where you're at in your story, Jesus is the Author (Hb. 12:2), and He's not done writing your story until He returns (Phil. 1:6). He's the One with the pen and He's the only One who can give us the ending we so desperately need.
In the book of Exodus, we read about a nameless, Israelite baby whose story takes off with him being found by Pharaoh's daughter floating down the river in a basket. This was a time when Pharaoh was killing all the Israelite children. If it had not been for the daughter of Pharaoh finding him, he would have certainly died. Pharaoh's daughter named him Moses, which means "I lifted him out of the water." Ironically, it was Moses who would lead the Israelites out of captivity from the Pharaoh who was oppressing the Israelite people.
Moses wasn't a natural leader. Speaking in front of others and leading was not something that came naturally to Moses. You could even say he wasn't qualified to lead, at least in his own eyes, but God saw it differently. In fact, the very person whose name meant "lifted out of the water," became the one God would choose to lead His people through the water: 21 Then Moses raised his hand over the sea, and the Lord opened up a path through the water with a strong east wind. The wind blew all that night, turning the seabed into dry land. 22 So the people of Israel walked through the middle of the sea on dry ground, with walls of water on each side! - Exodus 14:21-22 (NLT).
What has Jesus lifted you out of? What battles have you faced? Jesus didn't pull you from the muck and mire to just sit idly by watching others sink in their mess, or to get overtaken by the very things in this life that are trying to put them in chains. No, Jesus is calling you to share your testimony with others about Him lifting you out of the mess you were in. Jesus is calling you to lead others simply because you already know the way. The very thing that Jesus pulled you out of is the very thing He wants you to lead people through.
Regardless of what you've been lifted from or what your background is, use your story to help others who are still struggling. Moses argued that he wouldn't be a good leader, but God doesn't call the qualified, He qualifies the called. The trials and battles you've faced were simply God qualifying you to lead others through the same troubled waters. Share your story with someone who needs to hear it. You were lifted to lead! God Bless!
