Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ: - Philippians 1:6 (KJV).
Hello 2026! Here's to new year's resolutions, fresh starts, and new beginnings! And hopefully it's a goodbye to last year's let downs, disappointments, and failures. The new year always feels like a clean slate, but what about those of us who have lingering problems that didn't go away when the clock struck midnight? Just because the calendar turned the page doesn't mean some of our old problems didn't jump right onto the new page. Some of us can't even get excited about the new year, because we are bogged down with the unfortunate reality that this year might be just like last year. Instead of new year's resolutions, we're stuck looking for real-life solutions to real-life problems in need of real-life answers.
Uncertainty is a scary thing. When our future is up in the air, it makes the ground we're standing on feel shaky and our footing unsure. Fear, anxiety, depression, and hopelessness set in and our world becomes dark and gray. Living for God becomes harder than before and giving up starts sounding like a good idea, even though we already know what our lives look like without God. That's what uncertainty and the fear of the unknown does to us. It leaves us unable to move, paralyzed by fear, and afraid to take another step.
The Apostle Paul gives us the silver lining in Philippians 1:6, Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ: (KJV). Confident. The opposite of unsure. What Paul is trying to tell us is this: even though we will face uncertainty, even though we will be unsure about what tomorrow holds, we can be confident that the Lord is not through with us. If life isn't good, then He isn't done with you or your situation. When you're unsure of the next step, or unable to move from the weight of lingering problems, we can stand confident knowing that Jesus holds all of our tomorrows. He's the King of our mountain tops, and most certainly, He's the King of our valleys!
Whether you closed out '25 on a high note or looking to turn the page on a year that didn't go the way you wanted it to, here's something you can have confidence in throughout all of 2026: Jesus isn't done with you, yet! Lift your head, pick yourself up, and know that Jesus is working on your behalf! God Bless!
