"Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us," - Ephesians 3:20 (NIV).
What powers you? With today's technology, we have so many ways to power ourselves through this life. We have gas power, solar power, electric power, steam power, wood power, nuclear power, the list goes on and on. With so many options available, it's a wonder that any of us ever run out of power. Why would we? How could we? We have low fuel lights and fuel gauges on everything we drive or operate. We have power meters and battery icons on everything from smart phones to laptops. If we run low, just pull into a "filling" station. And yet, we still push the limits and find ourselves with dead cell phones and cars on the side of the road.
As Christians, we run on a power that needs to be refilled, as well. If I was to "gauge" where the church is today, I would say some of us are broke down on the side of the road. For others, the fuel light is on, and they've slipped into low power mode. The hands and feet of Jesus have quit reaching for and going to the places that Jesus wants us to go. People who were once on fire for God and shouting the Good News from the mountain are now stuck in the valley of not attending church and seldomly speaking about their faith. Why? Because we get confused on how the power that works within us works. God's power never runs low, but ours does. When we surrender our lives to Him, we are no longer running on our power, but His power that is working within us. So, what is His power that is at work within us? Short answer: His Spirit. The Holy Spirit. The Holy Ghost. "The Spirit of God, who raised Jesus from the dead, lives in you. And just as God raised Christ Jesus from the dead, he will give life to your mortal bodies by this same Spirit living within you." - Romans 8:11 (NLT).
Christians run on Holy Ghost power, and just like everything else that runs on power, we need to be refilled, too. How do we get refilled? By staying plugged into the source: Jesus. “Yes, I am the vine; you are the branches. Those who remain in me, and I in them, will produce much fruit. For apart from me you can do nothing." - John 15:5 (NLT). Has life gotten heavy for you? Were you once on fire for God, but now you're not? Maybe you need to get plugged back into the source. Maybe you should pull into the next filling station you see and get refilled. Find a church. Call a brother or sister in Christ. We run on Holy Ghost power. Don't wait until you're broke down on the side of the road to get refilled. God's open 24/7. God Bless!
