"How long, O LORD, must I call for help? But you do not listen! “Violence is everywhere!” I cry, but you do not come to save." - Habakkuk 1:2 (NLT).
Have you ever gotten frustrated with God? Have you ever prayed and prayed but the only response you got was silence? So, you pray some more and wait. More silence. More waiting. We've all been there. The invention of the internet, smart phones, and Door Dash have just about ruined all of us. We want what we want when we want it, no time for waiting. If only God had an app! Then we could check and see if our prayer was still pending, or if it had finally been processed!
The prophet Habakkuk gave us an honest account of how it feels to get frustrated, even angry, with God. Habakkuk cried out to the Lord, repeatedly asking Him to step into His situation. But what Habakkuk got was silence. So, what did Habakkuk do? "I will climb up to my watchtower and stand at my guardpost. There I will wait to see what the Lord says and how he will answer my complaint." - Habakkuk 2:1 (NLT). Habakkuk continued doing the Lord's work and waited. He didn't quit. He didn't give up.
Waiting is the hardest thing to do when we want answers now. Imagine how the apostles felt after watching Jesus get crucified. The prayers, the cries, the silence. Their world had just been turned upside down. I would imagine they were questioning everything they had ever believed. Friday's disappointment turned into Saturday's silence, but after the silence and waiting was Sunday's empty tomb. God is always on time and His answer is always better than we could ask or think!
Maybe you've become frustrated with unanswered prayers, or maybe your faith has gotten lost in the silence. Just remember, it's always darkest just before the sun rises. Habakkuk got his answer and so will you. "If it seems slow in coming, wait patiently, for it will surely take place. It will not be delayed." - Habakkuk 2:3b (NLT). Don't quit. Don't give up. Just keep showing up, keep praying, and keep waiting. With God, silence leads to breakthrough. Just ask the apostles. God does His best work in the silence. God Bless!
