And when they had sent away the multitude, they took him even as he was in the ship. And there were also with him other little ships. - Mark 4:36 (KJV).

When the ship left the shore, the disciples of Jesus had no idea of the impact this voyage was going to have on them and the rest of the world for the next 2,000 years. Mark 4:36-41, is the Gospel of Mark's account of Jesus calming the storm with the words, "Peace, be still." As the storm raged on, the disciples feared they weren’t going to make it, but were they ever really in danger? Not with Jesus on board.

Storms are always going to be a part of life, but not every storm we go through is a designed attack from the enemy. We tend to blame everything bad that happens in our lives on the devil, but what if God allows us to go through storms to reveal to us who our real friends are? I want to draw your attention to the second half of Mark 4:36, "And there were also with him other little ships." We have no way of knowing what the intentions of the "other little ships" were, but we do know that during and after the storm these ships were no longer mentioned. Did the other little ships go down in the storm? Did they turn around and leave at the first sound of thunder? All we know is that when the storm was over and the disciples’ boat made it to the other side, the “little ships” were no longer part of the story. It seems as though when the going got tough, they got going...the other direction!

Storms and people will come and go, but we serve a God who promises to never leave us nor forsake us. Jesus is always on board to protect us through whatever storms this bound, bruised, and broken world can throw at us! Not every storm we go through is because we are being tested, or because God has abandoned us. Sometimes God has us go through storms to get rid of the other little ships in our life to show us who’s real and who’s not. Remember this verse from Romans 8:28, " And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose." (KJV). All things, even the storms.

Jesus is always working on our behalf, even when life doesn’t seem to make a lot of sense and we’re asking Him why we are going through a storm. Maybe He’s just trying to get rid of the “other little ships” in your life. Maybe He’s saving us from a more devastating pain down the road. With Jesus in the boat, we’re going to make it to the other side. God Bless!
