Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect. - Romans 12:2 (NLT).

What is the biggest influence in your life: the world or the Word? That's the question we should all be asking ourselves. It's hard for God to transform our minds when we are still being heavily influenced by the behavior and customs of this world. Here's a reality check for everyone: if nothing changes, then nothing changes. We are destined to keep making the same old mistakes we've always made if there aren't some real changes in what influences us.

The world and the Word are in direct contrast with each other. Whichever one of the two we listen to the most will be reflected in how we live our lives. We all want to be transformed into something new, but many of us don't spend enough time having our minds renewed by the Truth that is in the Word of God. What we watch and listen to becomes what we think, and our thoughts become our actions. If it's the world, then we're going to think and act like the world. If it's the Word, then we're going to think and act like children of God.

Pay close attention to what our key verse says, "...let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think." The word let refers to us allowing God to do a work in us so that He can work through us. The transformation that God wants to do doesn't happen by accident, and He will not force His way into our lives. We won't have our minds transformed unless we spend time allowing God to renew our minds. We do this by intentionally spending time reading the Word of God.

Spending time in the Word has to be a daily commitment to the Truth. "And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free." - John 8:32 (KJV). The result will be freedom from the world and all of the things that leave us bound, bruised, and broken. God will do all of the heavy lifting, but we have to first put ourselves in a position for God to work in us. The more we get in the Word, the more the Word gets in us! God Bless!!
