Making Room For God. Part 1 of 3.

And she said unto her husband, Behold now, I perceive that this is an holy man of God, which passeth by us continually.

Let us make a little chamber, I pray thee, on the wall; and let us set for him there a bed, and a table, and a stool, and a candlestick: and it shall be, when he cometh to us, that he shall turn in thither. - 2 Kings 4:9,10 (KJV).

This is the story of the Shunammite woman who made a room in her house for Elisha, because she believed he was a man of God. Because of this, Elisha informed her that God was going to bless her with a child (vs. 16). Then in 2 Kings 4:17, we read, "But the woman became pregnant, and the next year about that same time she gave birth to a son, just as Elisha had told her." - (NIV). This woman made room for God and good things started happening in her life. So, let me ask you, are you making room for God in your life?

If you are making room for God, then you already know that God shows up and shows out when you allow Him room to move in your life. I’ve seen so many people start making room for God amazing things happened started happening. People finding sobriety, getting better jobs, families restored, and lives being truly changed. Remember, we serve the God of impossible. Paul tells us in Ephesians 3:20,”Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us,” We serve a God who wants to do more for us than we can even imagine.

If you’re not making room for God in your life, then you haven't experienced the life changing power that takes place when you make room for God to do amazing things. When you turn over every piece of your life to the Creator of the universe, He will take the pieces you give Him and create a masterpiece out of you. Let's take a look at some areas in your life that you can start making room for God in.

Your car is a great place to start making room for God. What kind of music are you listening to in your car? Are you using the drive to work as a time to talk with God? There is no better place where you can meditate and be alone with God.

What about your job? Have you made room for God at work? Are you the co-worker that gets an apology from the other workers when they cuss in front of you, because you have made it clear at work that you are in relationship with Jesus Christ. Are you asking God for a better job? Start handling His business in the job you currently have, and He will start moving in this area!

What about at home? Are you making room for God in your home? Do you pray? Read the Bible? Families that pray together, stay together! What are you allowing in your home? Does it glorify God?

How about your faith? Are you asking God for this wonderful wish list of requests, but you don’t really believe He’s gonna do it? We have to start speaking the things we are asking for like they already exist (Romans 4:17).

So again, I ask, are you making room for God in your life?

Some of you can honestly say that you have made room for God and He has shown up in bigger ways than you ever deserved. But not everybody’s miracle has been born yet. It’s been conceived, but the season hasn’t arrived. When you made room for God, He gave you a promise. A purpose. A vision. Only you know what that vision is. And you know it was from God because you were making room for Him with everything you’ve got when He gave it to you.

When He gave me my vision, and when I say vision, I’m talking about a glimpse of where He sees me being a year from now, 10 years from now, 25 years from now, i.e., the purpose He created me to fulfill. I know it was from God because it almost scared the life out of me. If the promise, dream, vision, or purpose, whatever you choose to call it, doesn’t scare you, then I would question whether or not it was from God.

I wasn’t at home when it happened for me, because I didn’t have a home at the time. I didn’t have a job for that matter. I didn’t have a car, either. I didn’t even have an outdate. I was in a prison cell. But make no mistake about it, I was making room for God. When I started making room for God, miracles started happening in my life. I didn’t even have a Bible yet, but God was moving in the space I made for Him!

When my cellmate put in a request for a Bible (a process that usually takes 2-3 weeks), I told him to write at the bottom…"We need it by this Sunday." That Sunday was Easter Sunday. He stops and says, "There’s no way they will get us a Bible in 2 days." I told him, "That message is not for them, it’s for God." You see, I started making room for God in my faith and that faith was not dependent on the circumstances I was facing! On Saturday night, a total stranger gave me his Bible! God provided me with a Bible before Easter Sunday (a Bible I still carry to this day)!

The Shunammite woman made room for God, was given a promise by God, and the fact that she couldn’t have kids didn’t factor into the equation one bit! When you start exercising your faith and making room for God in your life, you will see miracles start happening. So, start making room for God in your car, job, and home and watch what happens. If you don't have any of these things, then start by making room for God in your faith. God wants to move in your life. All you have to do is make room for Him! God bless!!!

Next week - Making Room For God. Part 2 of 3.
