Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. - Philippians 4:6 (NIV).
Anxiety...Stress...Worry...the BIG 3! In today's world, it's impossible for anyone to escape these three happiness killers. From bills and overpriced groceries to the grind of work and trying to raise our children, each and every day seems like an uphill battle. Most days we find ourselves asking why we even try. So, what's the cure? What can possibly alleviate the pressure we feel in our day to day lives? The Apostle Paul tells us in Philippians 4:6, that we shouldn't stress about anything, but instead, to pray about everything. Easier said than done, right?
If we serve a God who knows our every need, why do we have to present our requests to Him through prayer and petition? Can't He see what we're going through? Here's the answer: prayer isn't about Him as much as it's about us! When we pray, we turn our focus from the problem to the solution. Prayer has never been about getting God's attention. Prayer is about turning our attention away from the things that cause us anxiety, stress, and worry. Prayer brings peace, comfort, and strength. When we feel anxious, pray. When we're stressed out, pray. When worry is consuming our minds, pray. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus. - Philippians 4:7 (NLT).
We don't have to understand how prayer works, to understand that prayer works. In a bound, bruised, and broken world, we need the kind of peace that guards and protects our hearts and minds from all of the things that bring anxiety, stress, and worry. The kind of peace that only comes from prayer. God Bless!
