No weapon that is formed against thee shall prosper; and every tongue that shall rise against thee in judgment thou shalt condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the LORD, and their righteousness is of me, saith the LORD. - Isaiah 54:17 (KJV).
Jesus never promised us a problem free life after we surrendered our lives to Him, and no one said living for God is easy. Some days it feels like we are under constant attack and the whole world is conspiring against us. The weapons formed by the enemy can be creative, deceptive, and cruel, but the Word of God says that the enemy's weapons will not be effective, not that they wouldn't be formed.
When we think of weapons, we think of worldly weapons like guns, knives, and swords, but the enemy is more subtle than that. The enemy uses lies against our character, attacks on our testimonies, and sows discord amongst the brethren. Christians are constantly being bombarded with insults being catapulted at them from an enemy who is rarely seen as the real culprit. In fact, when the enemy is at his best, he brings the attack from within our inner circle of trust. The devil would love nothing more than to keep God's children fighting with each other, because then, we aren't carrying out the commission given to each and every one of us: to tell others about Jesus.
So, how do we protect and defend ourselves from unforeseen attacks from the enemy? The Word of God tells us in 2 Corinthians 10:4, We use God’s mighty weapons, not worldly weapons, to knock down the strongholds of human reasoning and to destroy false arguments. (NLT). Instead of picking up the knife that stabbed us in the back, the Bible says we are to use God's mighty weapons. The Apostle Paul tells us in Ephesians 6, that we are to use the whole armor of God, not just parts of it. How does the armor of God help?
The Belt of Truth - when lies and insults are being thrown our way, we don't throw them back. We keep it together through integrity and honesty.
The Breastplate of Righteousness - lies and insults bounce off of us when we have our hearts protected by a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.
Gospel of Peace Shoes - when we are moving with purpose in Christ, we don't have time to listen to the haters.
Shield of Faith - being grounded in our beliefs gives us the confidence to stand tall in the face of any adversity.
Helmet of Salvation - knowing your identity in Christ will keep the lies and insults from getting in your head.
Sword of the Spirit - the Word of God will always prevail over the enemy. We use the Truth found in the Word to cut down any lie the enemy comes at us with.
Paul goes on to say, Pray in the Spirit at all times and on every occasion. Stay alert and be persistent in your prayers for all believers everywhere. - Ephesians 6:18 (NLT). Prayer is the best defense we have against attacks from the enemy, but we also have the ability to help our brothers and sisters in Christ with the battles they are facing through prayer. When we pray, we are handing the battle over to Jesus to fight for us, and with Jesus in our corner, no weapon formed against us will ever prosper. God Bless!
