For God, who said, “Let there be light in the darkness,” has made this light shine in our hearts so we could know the glory of God that is seen in the face of Jesus Christ. - 2 Corinthians 4:6 (NLT).

When God spoke life into existence, He began by simply saying, 'Let there be light.' The word let means to not prevent or forbid; to allow. We serve such an omnipotent God that He created this entire universe by simply speaking it into existence. He allowed it, He didn't prevent it. Now, light is measured by the brightness or intensity of the light, but darkness on the other hand is measured by the absence of light. I can only imagine how bright the light was on the first day of creation when the very Spirit of God was moving in the darkness and He spoke the words, "Let there be light." (Genesis 1:3).

In the Spring of 2022, I was in a dark place. I was in a hopeless, pitch-black, isolated darkness, both in the world and in my head. Suicidal thoughts had taken up residence in my mind, and I couldn't see a way out. All I could see was my addictions and the seemingly worsening circumstances around me. My choices and my actions had taken me to a place of seclusion from most of my friends and all of my family. I second guessed every decision I made. I looked at everyone as potential villains in my story, while simultaneously viewing myself as the biggest threat.

If you've been there then you already know there is no lonelier feeling than not being able to trust your own perception of reality. It's walking in total darkness. It's scary, lonely, and hopeless all at the same time. I may not know how bright the light was on the first day of creation, but I do know how bright the light was the day Jesus stepped into my darkness. It was a game changer, a life saver, and it changed the course of my life. If He did it for me then He is willing to do the same thing for you.

The Bible says that Jesus stands at the door and knocks (Revelation 3:20), but we have to open our hearts and "let" Him in. That's the thing about freewill. Jesus is willing to bring us out of darkness, but only if we allow Him to do it. He will start the fire, but we have to fan the flame. And when we do that, we will start being a light in this dark world that changes other people's lives for the good. What are you waiting for? Allow God to shine His light into your heart today! God Bless!
