"For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God." - 1 Corinthians 1:18 (KJV).
"God, help me!"...How many times have we said those words when it was convenient? or, When we really needed God to show up in our lives on short notice? I'll admit...I've said those words more than I can count. When I felt like I couldn't handle ANYTHING on my own, after trying to handle EVERYTHING on my own. Then, once I'm through the situation, I go right back to doing things exactly the way I was doing them before. On my own, without God.
Too many people think they have an "Emergency God." You know, the God they can pull out when they need Him but don't want to make a commitment to Him once He delivers them. We only call on Him when we really truly need a miracle or when we tried it by ourselves and it's all falling apart. How many times have you actually fully committed to and completely trusted God for everything? Not just when we are sick, facing jail time, or in between jobs. It takes a commitment and full surrender to God. God examines our hearts therefore he knows if we're sincere and really trusting him. Psalm 139:23 - "Search me, O God, and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts:" (KJV).
While I was incarcerated in 2018, I surrendered my life to God. I tried for so many years to handle things on my own, but always made a mess of it. Every single night before I went to sleep, I would tell God that I was leaving all my burdens at the foot of the cross and that I was putting complete trust in him. It is so hard to find hope in many situations we face. Being in prison was one of those situations for me. I found myself hopeless and uncertain about what my future held. I didn't need an emergency God, I needed an everyday God. I needed a God I could take the smallest concerns to and He would hear me. God wants a relationship with us daily, not just for times of trouble.
Once I committed to God for everything my entire life changed. It's not just trusting God with your problems, it's trusting God with every area of your life. In order to trust God with every area of your life means to give Him control of every area of your life. Trusting God to protect your children, trusting God for your marriage to flourish, trusting God to make a change in your life. It's trusting God with your day. Lay your burdens and your needs at the foot of the Cross. 1 Peter 5:7 - "Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you."
He died for you and gave His life for you. He wants to meet every need you have. All He wants from you is your time. He wants a personal relationship with you. He wants to bless you in the morning and bless you at night. Thank You, Lord, for letting me bring all my burdens and cares to You by laying them at the foot of the Cross.
