"Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed." - 1 Peter 2:24 (KJV).

Resurrection Sunday. The day the stone was rolled away, leaving only an empty tomb. Jesus' lifeless body was no longer laying there bruised. Jesus had defeated death and restored hope to His disciples. The first stanza of the song, Rattle, by Elevation Worship, captures the impossibility of that morning:

Saturday was silent, surely it was through

But since when has impossible ever stopped You?

Friday's disappointment is Sunday's empty tomb

Since when has impossible ever stopped You?

When has doing the impossible ever stopped Him? How many times in the Gospels did Jesus give sight to the blind, heal the sick, and raise the dead? But He didn't just stop there! Many of us can testify that God has stepped into our very own, dead situations, and done what can only be described as, the impossible. Matthew 19:26, "But Jesus beheld them, and said unto them, With men this is impossible; but with God all things are possible." (KJV). Insert your impossible story into the "this" from that verse. I thank God every day for grabbing me by the collar and yanking me out of the miry clay I was stuck in. Without Him, I would still be stuck in my silent Saturday, thinking there was no hope for me, crushed by guilt and shame.

This Resurrection Sunday has an even more special meaning for me. It was two years ago to the day that I overdosed. The two-year anniversary of when Jesus rolled the stone away from the sinful tomb I was buried in and did the impossible in my life! Tomorrow will be a double helping of remembering the goodness of God. My cup runs over. My heart is full. I owe Him everything. The last two years have given me a new purpose, and the abundant life that Jesus promises is only getting better with each passing day.

So why does Jesus willingly do the impossible in our lives? Why doesn't He just reign in heaven on high? He's already died on Calvary. That should be enough, right? Why does He continue to do the impossible in the here and now? Because when He defeated death, He defeated everything that leads to death. Cancer, addiction, depression, and every other sinful tomb that exists. He did all that so we can not only live with Him eternally, but so we could live righteously. Look at our key verse, "...that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness, by whose stripes ye were healed." He suffered so we could also have life here on earth!

People have a tendency to think that living for God is a strict list of dos and don'ts. It's not. Living for God is true freedom. 2 Corinthians 3:17 says, "For the Lord is the Spirit, and wherever the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom." (NLT). Because Jesus broke free from the constraints of sin and death, let us stand in the freedom that He has given us. Don't lay in your tomb of sin. The stone has been rolled away and the Saviour has risen! He's still rolling stones and He is calling each and every one of us to come out of our graves of sin into true freedom found only in Him. This is Resurrection Sunday!!! Let Jesus resurrect your impossible situation today!!
