Making Room For God. Part 2 of 3.
"And when the child was grown, it fell on a day, that he went out to his father to the reapers. And he said unto his father, My head, my head. And he said to a lad, Carry him to his mother. And when he had taken him, and brought him to his mother, he sat on her knees till noon, and then died." - 2 Kings 4:18-20 (KJV).
Last week, we read about the Shunammite woman making room for God by building a room on her house for the man of God, Elisha. The Shunammite woman was then blessed with her first child. In Part 1, I talked about the miraculous power that takes place when we make room for God in our lives, especially our faith. How by making room for God to move in our lives we will begin to see miracles taking place that can only be credited to the God Almighty. I talked about how these miracles can show up in different ways; from real-time, life transformations to promises made and conceived, but not received...yet.
This week, we travel a little further into 2 Kings 4, and read how the Shunammite woman saw her promise fulfilled in the birth of her son. In verses 18-20, however, we read that the promised child died. The Shunammite woman must have been devastated, questioning God, and wondering why this was happening.
Many of you have experienced the miracle working power of our God. He showed up and showed out, but now you’ve went through a few storms, or you’ve been facing resistance for so long that you forgot what it was like to just enjoy living for God. As soon as clouds started coming in, the devil was in your ear telling you that it wasn’t real, or that you should’ve known it was too good to be true. The devil will start speaking lies into our subconscious that seem to be louder than anything else we can hear.
The devil knows about the promise God made to you. The devil also knows how much power there is when a child of God starts exercising their faith. He knows that when you pick up your shield of faith, that the gates of hell cannot prevail against you. So, he starts to whisper in your ear that you can’t do it. If he can get you to set down your shield, then you’ll be wide open to attacks from the enemy. He does this through fear and doubt. Guilt and shame. Jesus tells us in John 10:10, "The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly." (KJV). The devil, or the thief Jesus is referring to, is "a liar and the father of lies." (John 8:44).
The attacks we face from the enemy are attempts to kill the promises that God has made to us. The very promises that we, as Christians, are taught to stand on, but the devil tries to kill those promises with contradictory lies, to steal our peace by flooding us with worry, fear and doubt, and to destroy our relationship with Jesus by discouraging us.
Let’s look at how the Shunammite woman reacted when the devil tried to kill her promise:
21 And she went up, and laid him on the bed of the man of God, and shut the door upon him, and went out. - 2 Kings 4:21 (KJV).
She placed him back in the room she made for God. She didn't give up! She didn’t bury him. She didn’t tell someone else to deal with him. She took her promise from God back to where she started making room for God in her life. It was almost as if she was telling God, ‘Hey, You’re the only One who can fix this and I’m not giving up no matter what the world says about it!" Tune in next week to see what happened when the Shunammite woman CONTINUED making room for God by exercising her faith!!! God Bless!!!!
