Making Room For God Part 3 of 3
"And when Elisha was come into the house, behold, the child was dead, and laid upon his bed. He went in therefore, and shut the door upon them twain, and prayed unto the Lord. And he went up, and lay upon the child, and put his mouth upon his mouth, and his eyes upon his eyes, and his hands upon his hands: and stretched himself upon the child; and the flesh of the child waxed warm." -
2 Kings 4:32-34 (KJV).
In Making Room For God Parts 1 & 2, we read how the Shunammite woman made a room in her house for the man of God, Elisha, and the Lord blessed her by giving her a son. We then read how the son died, but the Shunammite woman didn't react to his death like most people would have. Instead of making funeral arrangements, she took her dead son and laid him in the room she made for Elisha. Now, this may seem like an odd thing to you and me, but she was hanging on to her faith that God wasn't going to let the blessing He gave her die.
Like many of us who have received a gift from God, the enemy comes and tries to kill, steal, and destroy the blessing. We can learn a lot from the Shunammite woman's faith. She simply kept the faith that God had her, no matter what the world told her and no matter what the circumstances of her situation seemed to be.
Let's take a look at 5 steps to seeing the miraculous take place in your life, much like the Shunammite woman did:
The Decision. You have to choose to make room for God in your life. God will not make this decision for you. You can’t go for it half-heartedly, it has to be all in.
The Dream. When you make room for God in your life, He will give you a dream, a promise, a mission, a purpose, a calling. If you don’t know what this is for your life, then start praying that God will reveal it to you. It's at this point you start to believe that you can do it.
The Delay/Difficulty. Just like the Shunammite woman, you’ll have to wait for the season before you see your promise fulfilled. God waits until you are ready to handle it. Fulfilling your purpose is going to be hard work. You will face resistance. The struggle will be real, but God will never put more on you than you can handle. It’s at this point that you start to question whether or not you can do it.
The Dead-End. This is where you may hear the devil celebrating that he has won. This is where you may even quit, or worse, lose faith in God. But, this is also the place where you may need to take your shoes off, because you are standing on holy ground. God finally has you where He wants you. When you can find the courage to raise your hands and begin to praise Him for what He is about to do, it’s then and only then that you are about to unlock something more powerful than you could ever ask or think. It’s at the dead-end where you realize that you can’t, but God, and only God can.
The Deliverance. It’s at this phase where God shows up and shows out. Remember our key verses for this week? Let's look at how the Shunammite woman's story ends:
35 Then he returned, and walked in the house to and fro; and went up, and stretched himself upon him: and the child sneezed seven times, and the child opened his eyes.
36 And he called Gehazi, and said, Call this Shunammite. So he called her. And when she was come in unto him, he said, Take up thy son.
37 Then she went in, and fell at his feet, and bowed herself to the ground, and took up her son, and went out. - 2 Kings 4:35-37 (KJV).
Some of you reading this are saying, "That’s nice and all, but how do we get from a place of defeat back to a place of victory?" In Acts 16, we read about Paul and Silas getting arrested for preaching. They were beaten and then thrown into the inner prison. Their time was up. They were done. But the Bible says at midnight they began singing praises and worshipping the Lord. Suddenly there was an earthquake and the prison doors opened.
Just like the Shunammite woman, Paul and Silas didn't lose faith in God. They continued to believe that God can and will turn dead situations into new life testimonies. If God did it for them, then He will do it for you and me. All we have to do is keep making room for God. When we keep making room for God in our homes, our jobs, our cars, and most importantly, in our faith, then God will keep doing the miraculous in our lives.
It all starts with the decision to make room for Him. So, whether you are in the delay, the difficulty, or the dead-end, keep making room for God to do the impossible in your life and He will no doubt keep showing up and showing out. God Bless!!!
